CAD/CAM Design
What is CAD/CAM Software?
CAD/CAM software controls CNC machines like mills, routers, lathes, and wire EDMs. CAD stands for computer-aided design, and CAM stands for computer-aided manufacturing. CNC stands for computer numerical control.
CAD software helps us design parts from scratch, modify existing designs, or prepare parts for machining. We use CAM software to program toolpaths and generate the code that controls our CNC machines. CAD/CAM software takes components from design through production.
Advantages of CAD/CAM Design
CAD/CAM software eliminates errors that can occur when manually programming a CNC machine.
The ability to program extremely complex parts.
CAD/CAM software increases productivity through automation, which saves time saves time and improves precision and productivity in the manufacturing process.
THE CAD/CAM Software LG Metalworks Uses
Autodesk Fusion 360
Fusion 360 allows us to design components using a comprehensive set of modeling tools to ensure form, fit, and function with various analysis methods. With this software, we can do the following:
Sketching
Direct Modeling
Surface Modeling
Parametric Modeling
Mesh Modeling
Freeform Modeling
Rendering
PCB Design Integration
Sheet Metal
Assemblies
Mastercam
Mastercam provides CAD/CAM software tools for various CNC programming needs, from basic to complex. Mastercam helps to streamline the production process from job setup to job completion.
Mastercam CAD/CAM software translates computer-aided design (CAD) to manufacturing workpieces with computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) on CNC machines.
